A Melbourne native, Thong completed his medical studies at Deakin University in 2013.

Thong has always had an interest in holistic patient care, balancing the physical, mental and social needs of each individual.

Having spent a significant number of years in the medical field, Thong has seen the importance of early medical advice and the difference that a consistent GP-patient relationship can make to the overall patient health.

As a GP, Thong draws on his previous experience in both private and public institutions (Austin Health, Eastern Health and Epworth Healthcare) across a wide range medical and surgical specialties. He has written on the health of the eye, with work published in internationally recognised medical journals. He is also currently completing research work on refugee health with Monash University where he also teaches medical students.

Thong has completed further studies in surgical anatomy at the University of Melbourne and paediatrics with the University of Sydney. As someone who believes in the importance of lifelong learning as a GP, he is currently also completing a Master of Medicine with a major on skin cancer medicine.

Thong considers himself a true ‘generalist’, enjoying all of the varying aspects of medicine that general practice presents day to day. However, he does enjoy the challenges of helping patients with chronic illness and mental illness. He has experience in sexual health (including implanon insertion) and travel medicine where he is an accredited yellow fever immuniser. He also loves seeing children, especially watching his paediatric patients grow and thrive.

When not caring for patients he enjoys dabbling in music and exploring Melbourne’s ever-growing cafe scene. He is always happy to talk about the footy and as a father for two beautiful and sassy daughters, he also finds himself a regular at the best playgrounds and parks.

Dr MacDonald returned to the UK in 2007 to train as a GP and migrated to Australia in 2013 with her husband and 2 young boys, working as a GP in and around Perth before relocating to Melbourne in 2020. She has been involved with teaching students both here and overseas drawing on her varied experience, and feels very lucky to have had the chance to work and see medicine in such diverse and extraordinary places. She will carry these experiences with her throughout her medical career.

Dr MacDonald enjoys all aspects of General Practice with special interests in Women's Health (including Implanon and Mirena Insertion) and Children’s Health, Minor Surgery, Dermatology, Skin Checks and Chronic Disease Management.
