What made you decide to become a doctor?
As a teenager, I was an idealist with a strong sense of social justice. Getting into medical school opened the door to how I saw my future; to be educated, challenged, compassionate, and above all make those things worthwhile. Becoming a GP was a natural fit.
What do you enjoy about working in general practice?
The bustle, the babies, the grannies, the chat!
What attracted you to working at The Neighbourhood Clinic?
The culture. Being a good local GP isn't just about getting the right diagnosis, writing a prescription, or sending a referral. Quality care needs to consider the whole patient experience and treat people as individuals. I'd want to be a patient here.
As a doctor, what are you passionate about when it comes to treating patients?
There is so often a disconnect between what a patient is looking for and what the doctor delivers. Getting to know people, listening to what is most important to them, and understanding their concerns from their shoes is vital. You've got a sore ear and are late for work - sorted in 5 minutes! You want a med cert but are struggling with depression and financial pressure - let's talk about it.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
I love being outside with my dog, exploring new corners of inner north parks and beyond. Moving and having fun is so important to me, I think in general people forget this as they get older. It would be a bad week without swimming, running, or going to yoga but I'd pencil in a kitchen disco if needed.
What is your favourite way to spend a weekend in Melbourne?
A combination of the above, in the company of my husband and our wonderful friends.
What is your ideal holiday destination?
I have my heart set on climbing Kilimanjaro one day but that's on the back burner for a while thanks to coronavirus.
Finish this sentence, If I was not a doctor, I would be…
Living off-grid in the mountains.
